So, with that said, be sure to make your own buying decision after comparing all the ACs included on this list to what your current needs are.

Also, there are many, many ACs out there which could have be included on our list of the best portable air conditioners of 2018, but in order to keep this short, we decided to just give a mention to the best we have reviewed so far.

  1. I have been looking at getting a portable air conditioner for our dance studio for a while now, but nobody seems to be able to tell me how many of these sorts of units it will take to cool a 6x15m space.

Would I need more than one?

Thank you for a most informative article. I have seen some interesting air conditioners here that I haven’t seen before.

    • Getting the smaller one would be best for your size. My recommendation would be the EdgeStar ultra compact air con.

Let me know how it goes. 😉

  2. Very nice air conditioning units. I have been buying fans for my sons room because my apartment does not have central air. Wife and my room have an ac unit giving by the apartment complex.

We decided to give our son our room. So now we need an unit. These are great options and I like the price! Thanks for this review.

  3. The weather is getting so hot here in my country, that on some days, it is very difficult for me to sleep because I am constantly sweating throughout the night. Hence, I’m glad to have come across this review.

The EdgeStar Ultra Compact Portable Air Conditioner seems like a great choice for me, mainly due to its small size. I have a small room, so I’m always looking for ways to save space.

Does the EdgeStar come with warranty?

    Thanks for the great review!

    • It does come with warranty but not from the manufacturer, but from Amazon themselves.

Yes I also live in a hot country, so I feel your pain. One of these would easily help you fight the heat.

      Hope this helps. 😉

  4. Hmmm…. I really like the looks and size of the EdgeStar Ultra! I’m moving across the country to a dingy little place, haha – it’s a start for living on my own. BUT there is no air unit in the room.. so, I’m thinking I’ll be needing one of these. Summer can be very hot!

I think 269$ is very reasonably priced as well. Thank you for the great review! Looks like there are a lot of good ones to choose from. But for having a small room, I’m glad they make smaller sized ones as well! 🙂

    Cheers!

    • 🙂 Thanks for stopping . by and good luck with your new adventure 🙂 I hope you find the best portable AC you can haha 🙂

  5. I have been considering whether a portable air conditioning unit might work for me. I am looking for something that I can easily move from one work space to another. I do not want to buy multiple units if I don’t need to. I use different work areas at different times.

    • Then a portable air conditioner is what you need my friend. 🙂 They are the best for what you need and myself I also live in a tiny studio apartment so for me this was the perfect solution.

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  6. This is a great list! I live in Arizona and it just hasn’t cooled down and I feel like I’m sinning if I touch the AC in my house because of how much work it’s taking to keep everything cool. So I keep the temperature not as cool as I’d like considering the AZ summer heat. Do these portable AC’s save on electrical costs if I used them to keep my room cool through the night?

    • You can set it for temperature control meaning it will cool it down to your desired temperature an then it just slowly (with less power) maintain that room temperature to your liking.

So yes, if set properly; it can help you save on electric costs.

  7. I have been looking to get a new air conditioner for my holiday rental apartment and will buy next month. To compete with my competition in the nearby hotels it is a must buy.
So having a comparison together is really useful and additionally you have a link to your some more detailed reviews and also the Amazon reviews. I usually use Amazon as my first stop for buying so this makes it easy for me.
I now know a bit more about what to look for an buy next month. Thanks for the review. Alan

    • Hey Alan. Thanks for stopping by.  Really glad you have found my website useful and informative. Let me know if I can help in any way.

  8. Thank you for the very helpful review. The weather has been terrible this summer; so hot and humid. I’m glad I came across this too because it is much easier to have a portable air conditioner rather than one you have to lug in a window which is at least a two person job. This helps narrow down the decision making!

  9. This just gave me a great idea. We have forced air. It’s fairly reasonable to run the thing because we have good insulation, but the idea of setting this up in my office so that I don’t have to heat the entire house when I’m the only one home all day makes so much sense.

Unfortunately we have one of those gorgeous open, high-ceilinged floor plans that look nice but there is no way to partition off the main parts of the house. This would work great for during the workday, and it looks like there have been a ton of good changes since I bought my last one.

    Good info.

  10. Thank you for review on these air conditioners. I have been in the market for one since moving to Florida. I really don’t mind the heat at all EXCEPT when I am ready for bed. While I don’t care if the rest of the house is 80 degrees all the time, I can’t sleep well unless it is cold!

It is so nice to see that people are no longer subjugated to window units. If it is particularly hot, I can just roll one of these units near the window of where ever I am.

    • Exactly 😉 The smart (portable) air conditioner space has come a long way and they’re much more they they used to be.

Glad you found this review helpful Ernest. Wish you all the best. 🙂

  11. Thank you for the detailed information on the best portable air conditioners. I like EdgeStar Ultra Compact 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner the most due to its reasonable price and sufficient features for my small office. What about electricity – should I expect significant rise in my electricity bill? Or is this air conditioner energy efficient?

    • Hey Arta. These are all energy efficient. The modern, smart air cons are all coming energy efficient, any one off this list will have a low reasonable consumption.

Let me know if you have any more questions. 🙂

  12. When I viewed your home page, 15 ways to beat the summer heat,i thought it was practical advice that can help people. 1- KEEP IT SPICY, at first I was curious about that. However as I kept looking, you went on to explain. So, people want our statements understandable
    and you achieved that.

  13. Hi there,

    Great review!

I was just looking around the web for a portable air conditioner because mine doesn’t work anymore. Also, I rent my second house, and I don’t want to invest in a wall air conditioner since it is much more expensive. I really like the Whynter Dual. It seems to be of high quality. I just want to know if this air conditioner requires a hole in the wall to reject the air or it does it automatically?

Thank you for this excellent post!

  14. I’ll be needing one of these in a few months time when temperatures get higher in my living room.
thanks for this list and the reviews. Will make my decision way easier.

I quite like the first one , EdgeStar Extreme Cool. Don’t know why, it just looks badass :).

  15. Hi there,

I live in Florida and we seem to get an extended power outage every year due to a hurricane or tropical storm. In this situation, it is really rough not having an air conditioner so some people use a generator and window air conditioner to serve their needs. The problem is these are not energy efficient and consume a lot of power. Which of these units work on the lowest power so I can run off a standard gas generator when I need it?

    Thanks,

    Tony
